Baize terms of use
Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
These terms are the agreement between you and [CONTROLLER NAME AND POSTAL ADDRESS], who publishes Baize. "I" and "me" mean that publisher. "You" is the person using the app. By installing or using Baize you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
What happens to your data is explained in the privacy policy at https://baize.app/privacy.
1. Who can use Baize
You must be at least 18 years old and old enough to play poker legally where you live. If the age of majority where you live is higher than 18, that age applies. You must have the right to enter this agreement.
You are responsible for obeying the laws that apply to you, including the gambling laws of the places where you play. Baize does not make any game legal or illegal.
2. What Baize is
Baize is a record-keeping and statistics tool for poker players. You type in the results of games you play somewhere else, and Baize calculates from them.
Baize does not offer real-money games, wagering, contests or lotteries. It does not hold, send, receive or exchange money. A bankroll, wallet or balance in Baize is a number you keep, not money I hold. Baize is not connected to any poker room, casino or gambling operator.
3. Information, not advice
Win rates, confidence ranges, risk of ruin, stake ladders, shot plans, session-length analysis, equity, ICM figures and AI line checks are worked out from your records and from assumptions. They are estimates. They can be wrong, and on a small sample they can mislead. Baize says when a sample is small, and you should believe it.
None of it is financial, investment, tax, legal or gambling advice. The decisions about stakes, shots and money are yours. I make no promise about your results. Baize is not tax software, and its records may not meet the record-keeping rules that apply to you.
Poker carries a real risk of loss. Play only with money you can afford to lose. If gambling stops being fun, free help exists: in the United States call 1-800-GAMBLER, and elsewhere look for your national helpline.
4. Your account
- Anonymous account. With cloud backup on, Baize creates an anonymous account for your phone when you first use it. It is a random ID with no name or email, and only that phone can open it. If the phone is lost or wiped, I cannot get you back into it. Create an email account if you want to reach your data from another phone.
- Email account. Keep your password and your two-factor recovery codes safe. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell me at once if someone else has used it. One person uses one account, and an account cannot be transferred.
- Passwords. They must be at least 10 characters, with letters and at least one digit.
5. Your data
Your records belong to you. You give me only the limited right to store, copy and process them on my servers so that backup, restore and the features you ask for work. I do not sell them. I do not use them to train AI models.
Exporting and importing your data is always free. I will not put either behind a subscription.
You are responsible for what you enter. Do not enter anything unlawful, and keep other people's personal details out of notes and names.
Cloud backup is a convenience and not a guarantee. Keep your own file backup if the records matter to you. An anonymous account with no activity for 60 days is deleted along with its backups, as the privacy policy explains.
You can delete your account and your cloud data at any time in Settings, then Cloud. Records on your phone stay until you delete the app or its data.
6. Baize Edge
Baize Edge is an optional subscription.
- What stays free. Logging, live session mode, your full session history in the list, table and calendar, your core statistics with drill-down to the sessions behind them, the equity tools, and CSV import and export.
- What Edge adds. Filters in every form and saved views, staking and the real-result view, risk of ruin, the stake ladder, shot plans and the stop-loss guardrail, day-of-week and session-length analytics, the hand replayer and review queue, AI line checks, and more than one bankroll.
- The line can move. New features may land on either side. Free logging and your own data, including export and import, will not.
How the subscription works:
- Billing. It is monthly or yearly, as shown in the app before you buy, with the price in your currency and any tax. The App Store or Google Play charges you, not me.
- Free trial. New subscribers get a 14-day free trial. It converts to a paid subscription at the end unless you cancel before then. On the App Store, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. A trial is offered once per Apple ID or Google account. Any unused part of a trial is lost when you buy a subscription.
- Renewal. The subscription renews by itself for the same period, at the price then in force, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The store charges the renewal within 24 hours before that end.
- Cancelling. Cancel in the store, not in Baize. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. On Android, open Google Play, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Deleting the app or your Baize account does not cancel the subscription.
- Price changes. I may change the price. The store tells you, and in some places it asks for your consent. If you do not agree, cancel before the change starts.
- Refunds. Apple or Google handles them under its own policy, because they took the payment. I cannot refund a store purchase. Ask through reportaproblem.apple.com or the Google Play help pages. Rights that the law gives you, such as a withdrawal right where one applies, are not affected.
- If Edge ends. The Edge features lock. Your records stay, and everything free keeps working. Nothing is deleted.
- Restoring. Edge is tied to the account that bought it. Use Restore Purchases in the app on a new phone.
7. AI line checks
An AI line check is an Edge feature. It sends the text of one hand to Anthropic's API through my server when you ask for it, as the privacy policy describes.
The answer is generated by a language model. It can be wrong, incomplete or beside the point, and it is analysis, not advice. I may limit how many checks an account can run, change that limit, and refuse requests that look automated or abusive.
8. Acceptable use
Do not:
- use Baize to break the law, or to help anyone run illegal gambling, launder money or commit fraud
- probe, attack or get around the security or the rate limits of my services, or try to reach another person's data
- copy, reverse engineer or take apart the app, except where the law lets you
- use my servers by any means other than the app, or overload them
- resell, rent or sublicense Baize, or remove its notices
9. Ownership and license
Baize, its code, its design, its name and its wordmark belong to me and my licensors. I give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to use the app on devices you own or control, under these terms. Open-source and third-party parts of Baize stay under their own licenses.
If you send me feedback, I may use it without owing you anything.
10. Changes to the service
I may change, add or remove features, and I do not promise that the service will always be available. If I shut down the cloud service I will give reasonable notice and time to export your records. Updates may arrive automatically, and some features need the latest version.
11. Ending
You can stop using Baize at any time. I may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or abuse the service, or if the law requires it. Where I can, I will say why and leave you a way to export your records. The parts of these terms that are meant to last, such as the disclaimers and the limits on liability, last.
12. No warranty
Baize is provided as it is and as available. To the extent the law allows, I give no warranty of any kind, including for accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted or error-free use, or that the statistics suit your needs. I make no promise about results.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights the law gives you as a consumer and does not allow you to waive.
13. Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit, lost winnings, gambling losses, lost data, or decisions you make using Baize. My total liability to you for any claim is limited to the larger of what you paid for Baize Edge in the 12 months before the claim and US$50.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law does not let me limit.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the place where I, the publisher named at the top, am established, without its conflict-of-law rules. The mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live still apply to you, and you may bring a claim in your local courts where the law lets you. If something goes wrong, write to me first at hello@baize.app so we can try to settle it.
15. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms. I will post the new version here with a new effective date. For a material change I will also tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, where I can. If you keep using Baize after that, you accept the change. If you do not accept it, stop using Baize and cancel any subscription.
16. Apple App Store terms
This section applies if you got Baize from the Apple App Store. These are the minimum terms Apple requires of an end-user agreement.
- Acknowledgement. This agreement is between you and me only, not Apple. I, not Apple, am solely responsible for Baize and its content.
- Scope of license. The license I give you is limited to a non-transferable license to use Baize on any Apple-branded products that you own or control, as the Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service allow. Baize may also be used by other accounts associated with the purchaser through Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
- Maintenance and support. I am solely responsible for maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation to provide any. Write to hello@baize.app.
- Warranty. I am solely responsible for any product warranty. If Baize fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Baize. Any other claim, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense caused by a failure to meet a warranty is my responsibility.
- Product claims. I, not Apple, am responsible for any claim by you or a third party about Baize or your possession or use of it, including product liability claims, claims that Baize does not meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
- Intellectual property. If a third party claims that Baize, or your possession and use of it, infringes that party's intellectual property rights, I, not Apple, am solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging the claim.
- Legal compliance. You state that you are not located in a country under a US Government embargo or designated by it as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Developer name and address. Send questions, complaints or claims about Baize to [CONTROLLER NAME AND POSTAL ADDRESS], hello@baize.app.
- Third-party terms. You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use Baize, such as your wireless data service agreement.
- Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement. When you accept it, Apple gains the right, and is taken to have accepted the right, to enforce it against you as a third-party beneficiary.
17. Google Play
If you got Baize from Google Play, Google is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for Baize. Google Play's own terms govern its billing and refunds.
18. The rest
These terms are the whole agreement between us about Baize. If a part of them is found unenforceable, the rest stands. If I do not enforce a term at once, I have not given it up. I may assign these terms to a successor of the business. You may not. If a translation differs from the English text, the English text prevails. I may give notice by email or in the app.
